I was very pleased with the service I received at Ackerman's. As a new customer, having just purchased a 1996 Volvo 960 Estate Wagon, they gave me a complimentary post-purchase inspection. I was warned upfront that the inspection would only be 20 or 30 minutes and not all that comprehensive. Yet, when they called in the early afternoon to inform me the car was ready ,they had gone over the car rather extensively and uncovered a number of issues. When I dropped the car off, I mentioned that the indicator light on the dashboard for a bulb outage was present and they actually changed both bulbs in an attempt to correct the problem. However, it turned out that the tail light assembly was beyond repair and the cause of my light bulb issue. When I picked the car up, the charge for replacing the bulb was on my work order and I was prepared to pay it as I was the one who'd requested it in the first place. But ackerman's would have none of it and they waived the cost of the bulbs as they felt it was only fair since they did not correct the problem. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I left without having paid one penny and so much richer in knowledge about my car then when I first dropped it off that morning. Based on all of this, I highly recommend ackerman's to any vintage Volvo owner. If you live in the East Bay, or perhaps even Beyond, it is well worth the time and effort for you to become acquainted with this Premier Swedish car repair shop.
